Arnold Alphonso Adams, Sr. was born on July 23, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, the second of four children born to Robert M. and Shirley V. Adams. he met his wife, the former Kathleen North Pess, in 1977, they were married and from this union came one son. He departed this earth on October 16, 1998 after a brief illness.
He was educated in the public school system of Baltimore City, maryland where he graduated from Carver Vocational-Technical Senior High School. he was an outstanding athlete during his high school career. "Triple A," as he was affectionately known to many, he played semi-pro football with the Maryland Racers and the Baltimore Rams.
Arnold is remembered for his outstanding achievements with the Baltimore City Police Department. He joined the department in 1968. During his illustrious career which spanned twenty-seven years, he was the recipient of two Bronze Stars, two official commendations for outstanding performance and bravery, one unit citation, and one commendatory letter. After retiring from the department as a police detective in 1995, he became a security guard for the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Prior to his passing he became a successful businessman, opening his own detective agency with partners Lamont Graves and Winfred Murphy.
Arnold was an active member of the social community. He was a past sergeant-at-arms and member of the Vanguard Justice Society. Arnold was the recipient of a number of awards and helped to establish the Northwest Middle Schoo; Basketball League with Ricardo Gamble. In his spare time, he was an avid and accomplished bowler, golfer, and softball player.
He was survived by his loving and devoted wife, kathleen; three sons Kevin C. Press, Duane D. Holloway and Arnold A. Adams, Jr.; two daughters-in-law, mary L. Press and Gretta G. Holloway; two grandsons, Kevin C. Press, Jr. and Keon M. Press; his father, Robert M. Adams, Sr., his mother, Shirley V. Adams, brother, Robert M. Adams, Jr.; two sisters, Shirley Holly and Deborah Adams; three brothers-in-law, Alexander Holly, Preston Pinkett, Jr. and Sam Jeffries; five sisters-in-law, stella Adams, Patricia Pinkett, Janice Jeffries, Linda Mathews and Carole Press Jackson; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and a great nephew, a host of aunts and uncles, other relatives and many, many friends.
A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, October 21, 1998 at St. Edward's Catholic Church.
